Giraffe Stuffed Animal by Angeline Hope
A giraffe stuffed animal is always a fun soft toy to have if only because of the different sizes in can be purchased in. Like with any plush toy, having a giraffe stuffed animal that is as life size as it can be, makes the experience of having it, all the more enjoyable.
According to limited research conducted, the giraffes living in Niger, West Africa, are the only ones that remain there. While the population is on the rise and healthy by all accounts, the range in which it lives is getting smaller and loss of habitat continues to be an ongoing threat.
Niger giraffes are considered to be unique animals as they are the last giraffe representing the species west of Cameroon which once could be found occupying a much larger range in the region. The Niger giraffe is also an important part of giraffe history given it is a species that is healthy, ultimately able to represent a single source of biology. The branch of the Niger giraffe is a distinct one from other giraffe species given 350,000 years ago, they split off from a common ancestor into their own population. Their closest relative is the Rothschild giraffe which can be found living in ranges found in Uganda and Kenya.
Africa is home to 100,000 giraffes, but most of them live in private sanctuaries, wildlife reserves, national parks, and various other protected areas in which humans do not live. Niger giraffes, on the other hand, are living side-by-side with the people of the region all of which are fighting for the same things in a poor, dry, deforested place: land and food. Of the nine giraffe sub-species, only the Niger giraffe is endangered.
The Niger giraffe has large orange-brown spots on its body which then fade to white on its legs. While you may not be able to find a giraffe stuffed animal that looks the Niger giraffe, it won’t make a difference in the long run; as long as you have an authentic looking giraffe stuffed animal, you are set for lots of adventure and some good old fashioned play.
