Cat Fences – Wireless and Electric by Gen Wright
Cats, unlike dogs, do not respond to verbal commands that well. So you need some special apparatus to train your cats to keep themselves in a specific area, or to keep out of some specified boundaries. Here is when product vendors come up with innovative products such as the wireless cat fence and the electric cat fence as possible solutions to the problem.
How a cat fence system works.
First, let’s take a look at how a cat fence system works. An effective cat fence system allows you to adjust the correction level so that the system can be used for any cat. Cats have different sensitivity levels and training needs. So the ability to adjust the correction levels make it easier for any cat owner to train the cat to keep out of a protected area. After setting up the transmitter, you then need to place a receiver collar on the cat. You can use the system with any number of cats as long as you have the correct number of receivers in hand.
For example, if you do not wish your cat to play in the garden, simply set up the cat fence with the proper boundaries, and attach the collar receiver to the cat. When the cat comes near the protected area, a warning signal will go off. If it continues to go near the area, the cat will set off the transmitter. Over time, the cat will get used to the correction signals and avoid the protected area.
Two common type of cat fences.
The first type of cat fence is the wireless type. This works in a similar method as described above. However, there are no need to setup wires. To use the wireless fence, start by placing the transmitter near the area that you want the cats to keep off. The area can be set to be within 2 feet to 10 feet. That means the fence can protect very small areas as well.
The other type of cat fence is the underground cat fence. As the name suggests, you can hide the entire fence underground so that there are no hideous looking wires lying around. Such fences are ideal for backyards, gardens and lawns. The transmitter itself is waterproof. So even if it rains while your cat is in the protected area, there will be no danger.
You mark the boundary by using special wires that you run above or underground. If you are marking a lawn, you can always use a lawn edger to cut a thin line in the soil and then hide the wires underneath. That way, the entire fence becomes invisible. Like the wireless fence, you will have to attach the correction collar to your cat. You can buy multiple collars if you have more than one cat.
